~ Revelation ~

Revelation is an experiment that works under the Eye of Michael as a weapon; they do not have a sense of self outside of the orders they are given, simply following them out to a T since the EOM is all they have ever known: their memories of their past life before the Eye are missing, taken from them. The EOM uses them to dish out "judgement" on people they deem necessary, which includes escaped EOM members, towns, specific groups, etc. Revelation does not consider the morals of these actions, simply doing what they are told. Well, until meeting a few specific individuals in their work, who begin to change Revelation's perspective on themself and introduce kindness into their life that they learn how to reciprocate...

Background

Revelation, named Kiran Purandare at the time, was born in a poorer town that worshipped the Eye of Michael- the same town as Chester, actually. The Eye regularly took in children to experiment on and turn into soldiers, and Revelation, Kiran, was their newest one they took in.

While being trained in the Eye of Michael, Kiran meets a fellow member named Dahlia. Dahlia keeps them company throughout their training and grows very close with them. Kiran in this program shows massive progress and potential as a soldier for the EOM, but... Dahlia never really believed in the gospel of this place. "Gospel" as in the way they trained people and conducted themselves: she never agreed with taking children and training them to be soldiers, nor did she believe in worshipping plants the way these people did. She always preferred worshipping the land and planet itself, in appreciating what they all had rather than fighting and training people to serve Plants or Gods. Hell, she didn't even believe in killing people: she thought it was terrible and one of the worst things a person could do. She often lamented this to Kiran, who agreed with her.

Most of all, Dahlia always said that Kiran was a good person compared to these people. That they, both of them, could be better than this place.

...Kiran proves her wrong.

Kiran over the course of their time with the Eye is slowly completely indoctrinated: they are taught to OBEY or else face dire consequence, either through pain or resource withholding. The Eye of Michael is a cult through and through, abusing and weakening members until they were forced to comform. Kiran listened more and more overtime, especially weak to it due to their gentle nature. This even affects their relationship with Dahlia: while Rev has been slowly knocked down over time, Dahlia's coping mechanism is to cling tighter and tighter to her ideals, insisting that they are evil for murdering and that the two of them can be better, they can. There might be blood on her own hands now, but they can both be better than this place, right? They can escape together? Surely this isn't all there is- there's a whole planet out here, full of life and love and if they could just reach it...

But... neither of them can. Eventually, Revelation is given an order: kill Dahlia for showing and voicing her doubt. This is where the whole "judgement" part of their use to the EOM came from: Kiran is to murder people who deserve the EOM's divine judgement. Dahlia has nearly crashed, clinging to the idea that she herself is tainted but capable of changing- but there is no saving her, not from the Lord's - the EOM's - judgement. Kiran eventually goes through with it even with Dahlia's begging- and it nearly breaks them, allowing for the EOM to further sink their claws into them.

Kiran has been stripped of all of their morals by this point. They joined the EOM as a gentle child with differing religious beliefs- but were abused and indoctrinated until there was nothing left but the EOM's commands and this overbearing symbol of the pseudo-christianity they follow. Kiran is left with only their Pardah as a reminder of where they came from- but is then clothed in crosses and symbols of these people, and even has their name taken from them and replaced with another: Revelation. Revelation the Judge. Not the name their Hindu mother gifted them, but a biblical force to be reckoned with.

  • This part is interesting to me. I think with this, I'm leaning into the fascination I have with the nature of indoctrination: putting it simply like this places Revelation in the wrong- which they definitely are- but I think it is more complicated than that, you know? They were dragged into this place as a young child and grew up being preached ideals and had their resources withheld in order to instill obediance. There is blood on their hands now and they were told that to cleanse themself they had to follow the ideals of the EOM. This was a gentle and sensitive child.
  • After this... Kiran was seen as a full part of the Eye of Michael now- the Eye had won, it had gained itself a new soldier.

Revelation existed as only a soldier until...

The EOM is always trying to experiment with people to make the perfect beings, no? Revelation was shown to be a good canidate for testing due to what they had shown they were willing to do for the cult. So, Revelation was chosen for an experiment the Eye had been recently playing with: Plant DNA. They wanted to inject plant DNA into a person and keep them ALIVE so they could test whether it was possible or not to merge the two of them. Many had died before, but Revelation was promising; however... it went horribly: Revelation at the very least did not DIE like the others, but their body flat out rejected the Plant DNA. The scientists attempted to force it to remain in there, making sure the 'Plant' remained within them, but it never quite stuck to Revelation. Now, the broken-off part of a Plant lives inside Revelation, and it LONGS to break out of them and try to rejoin the part of its sister that it broke off of.

So, basically... this part of the Plant is constantly trying to rip itself out of Revelation's skin, meaning they were now fully reliant on the EOM's regenerative medication to repair their body when the Plant decides its going to try and break out through their skin. It leaves them in constant pain and discomfort, feathers and bits of plant limb often poking out of them. It happens the most along the skin of their cheeks, scarring those areas- those are usually there regardless of a flareup or not.

The scientists' attempt at fixing Revelation after the intial injection fully broke them as a person: not only was it excruitiating, but it nearly KILLED them. Whether it was to cope or just the result of having their body molded into something that was no longer theirs, Revelation loses their entire memory: they have no memory of who they were, of *what* they are, only that they belong to the Eye of Michael and serve them. The Eye saw nothing wrong with this: sure the experiment failed, but whatever, Rev now has no reason to doubt them or ever turn away from them. They have the weapon and the soldier they wanted, free of any potential doubts that might arise out of what Revelation came out of.

Rev, for the most part, doesn't even fully view themself as a person either. Just a tool... They hold no memory of Dahlia, of their mother, nor anything but their current enclosure: the Eye of Michael. The Eye achieved the weapon they wanted, burying 'Kiran' and leaving only Revelation.

... Until they meet Vinna and Genesis.

Genesis is one of the first people to ever comfort Revelation through one of their flare-ups. She finds them writhing in agony and simply sits with them, and when the pain has passed and their skin has been stitched back together by the medicine, Genesis offers them kindness. From here, Genesis begins interacting with Revelation and discovers that they aren't just some terrifying, intimidating soldier- but a person. And she helps Revelation begin to see this as well. The more Revelation interacts with him, the more Revelation begins to learn about themself: they like tea. They like the weight of their coat. They say things wrong sometimes but it makes Genesis laugh and that's... good? Genesis tugs out the humanity that was so buried inside Revelation, helping them to truly feel for the first time since their memory wipe. The two of them become extremely close.

It never brings back "Kiran", but it brings out something human. Revelation is a different person, but they have traits of who Kiran was- most notably their gentleness.

This is used when Revelation eventually meets Vinna.

...Which is further expanded up on the main timeline

    Current

For now, Revelation exists as purely a weapon for the EOM, whom they obey every order from. Due to the experimentation, they deal with flare-ups where the plant DNA will break from their skin, putting them in horrible pain until they can drink the vials the EOM gives out to put them back together. Who knows how long those vials will be effective in keeping Revelation's body and life intact, but Revelation has no care for that: they have not lived, therefore they are not afraid to die. For now, they will serve, until they meet others in the Eye who will inevitably bring back the humanity they thought they had lost...
